Get Paid Today: Online Surveys

By Chris Stirling On July 29, 2009 No Comments

The beauty about online surveys is that anyone can take them. Well, almost anyone. You will need some basic reading skills. Many sites require you to be 18 years or older. However, there are online surveys that are looking for the teenage demographic, and they will pay 14 years-old and up.

I remember when I was a kid that I’d go to the mall like any teenager would. We’d roam around looking at merchandise, eating fast food, and seeing what other friends showed up that day. There was this research company that would pay us $20 for our time. I thought I had struck gold. My opinion on soda, chips, and all sorts of teen things mattered.

This just goes to show that research depends on certain demographics. The best thing about this is that the college student, stay-at-home mom, and teenager all have a voice that research marketers want to hear.

You can make a few hundred dollars a month if you try. For a teenager or college student, this is enough income to get by. You don’t have to get a job at the local burger joint and beg for time off during homecoming.

For moms, this is the perfect opportunity to make some extra money while the baby sleeps. Sometimes, getting a “real” job nets the same amount of money as online surveys after you subtract the cost of gas and daycare. Anyway, the time you spend with your children is priceless.

To get started taking online surveys, look around and see what people are saying about different survey companies. Sign up with a variety of companies. After that, all you need is a computer and a nice place to sit for a few minutes and take your survey.

Be honest and take your time to thoughtfully answer your questions.

4 Myths of Paid Surveys

By Chris Stirling On July 27, 2009 No Comments

Paid surveys are a great way to make some extra money. However, don’t get caught in the trap of thinking this is how you’re going to make your fortune. You can supplement your income with a few extra hundred a month. That’s an electric bill or savings towards that vacation you never get to take.

This brings me to the first myth:

1. You can get rich doing surveys.

No getting rich, but you can expect to make a few extra hundred dollars in a month.

2. You can cheat your way through the survey system.

Research marketers make sure this doesn’t happen when you fill out your profile. As you take your survey, they estimate the amount of time it takes to answer questions. If you just zip through everything, you won’t be asked back.

3. You will make thousands of dollars a month doing paid surveys.

This may be true if you never sleep. Even then, the chances that you find that many surveys in one given month are rare. Let’s say you only take the higher paid surveys at about $2-$10 a survey. These usually take anywhere from 5-25 minutes to take. Do you have that much time to turn it into a couple thousand dollars in a month?

4. You can make up to $175 an hour doing a focus group.

Okay, this isn’t totally a myth. You will be paid that much if you qualify for the focus group, but you have to meet certain demographics. If you do qualify for these, don’t expect to get a full day’s work of these. The chances that you get asked to do more than one in a month are rare. If you do, consider it a nice surprise.

I’m not trying to burst any bubbles. Actually, I love taking paid surveys. It also helps me get a better grasp on what I might do if I decide to branch out on my own in marketing. Paid surveys are a great way to make some extra money, too.

The Reality of Working from Home

By Chris Stirling On July 25, 2009 No Comments

Working from home is work. If this simple statement doesn’t disappoint you, keep reading. We all know that the Internet is full of fortune fantasies. It can happen, but it doesn’t just land in your lap.

Let’s think about it. You’ve read some of those jobs that claim you’ll instantly be earning $500 a day spending only a few minutes working from home. All you have to do is type in a little info, and the money starts rolling in. Hmmm, why would people even bother getting a college degree when they can make $250,000 a year without doing much of anything?

This misconception is the reason that legitimate work from home opportunities get a bad rap. So, let’s get real about working from home. Are you self-disciplined? Do you have a quiet space that you can work at? Do you need flexibility in your schedule to make a little extra money?

Working from home may be more work than a “real” job.

The reality is that when you get started, you’ll end up putting in a lot of extra hours learning the ropes and trying to find the right opportunity for you. Keep this in mind when you get started because you don’t want to invest the time and effort only to give up before it becomes self-sustaining.

Working from home for someone else.

If you expect that you’ll be putting in some time, you won’t be disappointed. After all, you still get to create your own schedule. You can do data entry at midnight in your pajamas. Even better, can’t get to sleep? Instead of surfing your MySpace account, try writing a blog for someone that wants to pay you for it.

Starting up your own business online.

The beginning is where most of the work is required. Tasks like setting up a website, joining forums, posting blogs, social media, and much more take a while to get started. Once you’re up and rolling, it will get easier.

Home Assembly Jobs – Don’t Waste Your Time!

By Chris Stirling On July 7, 2009 No Comments

I just want to warn you about these “home assembly” opportunities. Watch this video to learn why they are a scam or read below:

ZD YouTube FLV Player

They are dangerous because they are SO darn seductive. They make you think that you can just turn your “idle” time in dollars by doing some “easy” assembly in a few minutes.

They tell you that the average person can assemble 10 in an hour and that they pay you $4 for each one!

Whoa! That’s $40 an hour!

Wow! That’s 80 grand a year!

Woo-hoo! Where do I sign up?!

DON’T DO THEM!

Here’s how they work:

You PAY to have someone send you the parts for some kind of hand-built thingy–like cookie cutters, or beaded jewelry, or something like that.

You PAY for the parts, assemble them and then “sell” them back to the company.

You get the difference between what you paid for the parts and what you sell them back to the company for.

But that NEVER happens. Want to know the truth?

First, there is almost always something wrong with the parts that you are given. They aren’t punched out correctly or one part is missing, or something like that.

So it takes you FOREVER to fix that little problem on each one and finally get the thing put together.

Second, after you fight through all the problems and finally get the shipment back to the company, you

don’t hear from them.

Then if you’re lucky enough to find a working phone number for them, they tell you that the assembly was “inferior” and they had to reject your items.

YOU don’t get paid!

Then you ask for your security deposit back and you’re told that it was non-refundable.

Look, this really is a scam. Right to the core.

Think about it. This idea might have worked in the US 100 years ago. It might have made a lot of sense then.

But now, high speed factories put these things together, and if it really is something that has to be hand-built. There are literally millions of people in China, Thailand and the Philippines lining up to do this kind of work for 50 cents an hour!

I hope I got this information to you in time. Please don’t fall for this scam.  There are too many GREAT opportunities for people like YOU who have a computer and a connection to the Internet.
