Dos and Don’ts of Computer Work at Home

By Chris Stirling On June 6, 2009 Under Work At Home

If you’re thinking about starting computer work at home, there are plenty of legitimate opportunities from which to choose. Working online is the perfect opportunity for stay-at-home moms and people hit by the economic crunch. If you’re thinking about trying your hand in computer work from home keep the following advice in mind.

Here are some of the common mistakes I have seen people make when they start up their home based business:

  • Ditch the dial up. If you haven’t already made the move from dial up to broad band or wireless, do it now. Plus, you’ll find that plenty of places offer free wireless Internet for laptop carriers. This is an added convenience for computer work at home if you just need to get out and be around some people. If you have a laptop, make sure it’s wireless or invest in a wireless card. The simple fact is you don’t have time to wait around for pages to load. If you don’t have high-speed Internet where you live, find an Internet card and pick up reception that way.
  • If you’re an affiliate marketer, build a mailing list. The biggest mistake that newbies make is not building their mailing list. Try a program that promotes viral online marketing. There are plenty of e-mail management companies out there that will help you track your opt-ins and opt-outs. You may even want to buy a Google Tracking extension to your website, to see what your users do when they go on your website, so you can market better.
  • Learn something new everyday. Yes, you can find computer work from home with an easy start up, but it’s wise to try to become more adept at using your computer. The basics include Word, Excel, e-mails, uploading graphics, and (if you feel really exploratory) HTML.

Keep these basic tips in mind and stay focused, and computer work from home will be simple.
