First Step To Working At Home

By Chris Stirling On March 15, 2009 Under Work At Home

So, you’re thinking about going solo and working from home. You’re fed up with the corporate jungle, your commute is too long, your work is under-appreciated and you want more time with your family. Great! Join the millions who work from home. But before you make the leap, you find an opportunity that would satisfy your needs.

When you start looking for a work at home business you need to sit down and think about it first.  One of the first things you should look at is how much money you can afford to spend starting up your business.  If you don’t do this you can quickly find yourself spending your money faster than you can earn it.

Like starting a business in the real world there are costs to working from home online.  The costs of starting a business online are significantly less that they are in the offline world but there are still some costs.

For example If you don’t have any experience working from home online then you will probably want to invest in a “how to” program.  This is no different than wanting to build a deck on your house and purchasing a carpenter’s 101 book from your local bookstore.  By investing the $25 in a “how to work from home” program you can save yourself hundreds of hours learning what to do and thousands of dollars in mistakes.

Another example of some expenses you will need to spend to start working from home are basics like webhosting fees. It is difficult to run a business online without a website.  That would be like selling coffee without a coffee maker.  Web hosting fees are not much, usually less than $100 per year but you need to consider such expenses before you start.

You will also want to consider talking to friends and family that you know are working from home.  See how it is working out for them.  Now be careful on this step as often friends and family will not understand what you want to do and will discourage you from working from home because they believe a job is the only way to make money and working for yourself is risky.

When talking to friends and family about working from home talk to those that are already working from home or have their own business.  If you don’t have anyone you k now like this do a search online for work at home forums.  Ask what peoples experience is working from home so that you can go into it with your eyes open to the possibilities and the challenges

No home business ever got started without taking action.  That is a simple fact and the one true fact that keeps 99% of people from being successful. If you are serious about working from home then you need to take action.  When you finish reading this article take action.  Don’t just site there and read another article.  Do something that will move you in the direction you want to be in.  That action does not have to be big, as long as it is an action that moves you forward.  Don’t be afraid of failure because you will fail, everyone does.  The key is to learn from your failure and not to repeat it.
