Work From Home – How To Start
So, you’re thinking about going solo and working from home. You’re fed up with the corporate jungle, your commute is too long, your work is under-appreciated and you want more time with your family. Great! Join the millions who work from home. But before you make the leap, you find an opportunity that would satisfy your needs.
The first step you need to take is clearly identifying your reason for wanting to work from home. Take your time doing this. It is not as easy as just saying you want to make more money or quit your job. You need to have a strong “why”. The reason you need a strong “why” is because when things get difficult, and they will, you need to have a strong motivator to help pull you through those difficult times.
An example of a strong “why” would be “I want to work from home because I want my son to have the best education possible and my current income level will not allow me to pay for his college tuition”. You see this is a strong motivator. This isn’t just make more money, this is making money with a goal in mind. So when the going gets tough you can motivate yourself because you have a goal to reach. If your why was just to quit your job then that won’t motivate you once you quit.
Another example of a strong “why” would be “my wife is sick and will have high medical bills in the future that we will need to pay”. Again there is a strong emotional tie to this why – your wife and her health. By using this as your why when you run into a challenge running your home based business from home you can say to yourself I need to figure this out so my wife can get healthy.
You will also want to consider talking to friends and family that you know are working from home. See how it is working out for them. Now be careful on this step as often friends and family will not understand what you want to do and will discourage you from working from home because they believe a job is the only way to make money and working for yourself is risky.
When talking to friends and family about working from home talk to those that are already working from home or have their own business. If you don’t have anyone you k now like this do a search online for work at home forums. Ask what peoples experience is working from home so that you can go into it with your eyes open to the possibilities and the challenges
Now that you have taken the time to seriously consider working from home and everything that is involved the next step you must take is simply to start. This is the hardest step to take but without taking it you will never get to where you want to be. The first step does not have to be a big one, it can be a small step like spending 1 hour a day researching your market. What you do first is not important, what is important is that you do something everyday and that each step is a step forward. As you build momentum you will quickly find yourself more successful than you ever imagined.
